Sunrisers rally across Ohio for expanded, clean public transit

This past Saturday, July 17, members of youth-led climate organization Sunrise Movement and Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 1 mobilized and rallied across Ohio for expanded, clean public transit. The local rally was led by Sunrise Columbus and included speeches and a march from the Statehouse to Sen. Sherrod Brown’s office and back. Participants called on Brown to support Rep. Hank Johnson’s “Stronger Communities Through Better Transit Act.” The bill would provide $20 billion per year in federal funding for transit operations from 2023 to 2026.

“People don’t always see the connection between public transit and climate change,” Loayza said. “Making sure that we switch over to electric or green forms of transit would make a big difference.”
