Columbus Tools

Summer’s here and it’s about time for some home improvement. But owning every tool you need, while obviously impractical and far from cost-effective, just doesn’t fit into a sustainable and harmonious local economy. Every tool in every garage is a crazily wasteful state of affairs, in Columbus or anywhere.

That’s why Modcon Living’s Tool Library program offers over 4,000 individual hand and power tools to its members, for borrowing a day or a week! https://www.modconliving.org/tool-library Modcon Living (formerly RT Central Ohio) is a very sensible and intriguing resource.

You must be a Columbus homeowner, landlord, or tenant (with permission from a landlord) to qualify for membership. Special rates are available based on income. Depending on the type of tool you need, borrow it for 1 or 7 days and return it. (A simple $5/day late fee starts after that, and borrowers are held responsible for broken or stolen tools.)

The hours of the Tool Library are
Tuesday 12p-6p
Wednesday 9a-3p
Thursday 12p-6p
Friday 9a-3p
Saturday 8:30a-11:30a
Sunday CLOSED
Monday CLOSED

Modcon is also always accepting donations of used tools to add to their lending list. If you have any used tools or any extra funds, check out https://www.modconliving.org/donate.

Their organization also offers The Safe at Home program (which provides emergency home repairs and safety modifications to low-income, senior, and disabled homeowners) and the Mod Squad program (which provides reliable and efficient home repair solutions to homeowners in Franklin County).
