Mission & Vision of Clean Fuels Ohio

The mission of CFO is to improve air quality & health, reduce environmental pollution, and strengthen Ohio’s economy by increasing the use of cleaner, domestic fuels and energy-saving vehicles. Its vision is clean transportation across Ohio.

Its Unique Approach

CFO takes a unique approach to advancing clean transportation. It is fuel-neutral and technology-neutral, which means it doesn’t promote one solution over another. Instead, it helps organizations understand their options and make informed decisions based on their specific needs, operations, and goals.

This approach is grounded in evidence, informed by data, and driven by collaboration. Its initiatives are bipartisan in nature, connecting businesses with practical solutions and bringing together diverse coalitions to solve complex challenges. Beyond providing guidance, it actively connects organizations with the resources they need to make change happen, including grant writing support, technical assistance, and access to peer networks for support, collaboration and co-learning.

It prioritizes objectivity over ideology, facts over assumptions, practical solutions over theoretical ideals, and collaboration over competition. This approach has made CFO a trusted partner for fleets, businesses, government agencies, and community organizations throughout Ohio.

Over the past two decades, CFO has supported numerous fleets in adopting alternative fuel vehicles across the state, managed millions in grant funding to help Ohio fleets transition to cleaner technologies, established Drive Electric Ohio as a leading statewide EV initiative, and built a network of industry partners, policymakers, and community leaders working together to advance clean transportation across Ohio.

Its work has helped reduce emissions, save fleets money on fuel & maintenance, strengthen Ohio’s energy security, and support the growth of clean transportation solutions throughout the state.

Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Transportation is the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions in the United States. In Ohio, the vehicles on our roads contribute significantly to air pollution, impacting public health and our environment. At the same time, fluctuating fuel costs and dependence on imported petroleum create economic uncertainty for businesses and families alike.

Clean transportation solutions offer an alternative path forward: reducing emissions, improving air quality, saving money on fuel and maintenance, and supporting Ohio’s economic prosperity. From electricity to hydrogen, propane, biofuels, natural gas and renewables, alternative fuels provide practical options that meet the needs of today’s fleets and consumers alike.

CFO advocates for a future where affordable, reliable, and environmentally beneficial transportation fuels & technologies strengthen Ohio’s economy, improve air quality & health, and create efficient mobility options. Its Programs include education & training, policy advocacy, convening & collaboration, and technical support.

At the same time, it works to create incentives & pro-EV legislation by engaging & educating electricity providers, policymakers, and political candidates about the economic & environmental benefits of electric vehicles.
