Electric vehicles (EVs) offer some real advantages over gasoline-powered cars. They produce zero tailpipe emissions, cost less to run & maintain, provide instant acceleration, and allow for at home charging.
Besides lower fuel costs (electricity is generally less expensive per mile than gasoline), they also require less maintenance (electric motors have fewer moving parts, there are no oil changes or spark plug & timing belt replacements), and the brakes last longer (regenerative braking reduces wear on physical brake pads).
EVs also provide environmental & health benefits. Because they have no tailpipe emissions, they improve local air quality and reduce greenhouse gases. They reduce noise pollution (electric motors run silently, making for quieter streets). They also provide improved performance (delivering fast, smooth acceleration) and better handling (battery packs create a low center of gravity that helps prevent rollovers).
And they can be charged at home. Plug in the car in the evening and wake up to a full battery in the morning. Using home-generated solar power to charge provides an even lighter environmental impact.

If you are interested in learning more about EVs, contact the folks at Drive Electric Columbus, an independent non-profit grassroots organization that brings together central Ohio EV owners & enthusiasts for meetings, ride & drives, educational events, and other activities related to electric vehicles. It advocates for fair policies for all current & future EV owners.
Drive Electric Columbus is inclusive and does not charge fees to participate in the organization or its events. It is not a part of any other organization. To date, its website, digital materials, and physical assets have come from its leadership team, who are willing to offer their time and financial support.
Its newsletter provides the latest information about its upcoming events, Ohio EV policies & issues, volunteer opportunities, and member articles. We would love to add you to our mailing list, and it is free to subscribe. And check out the Drive Electric Columbus Resources Page.
Support Drive Electric Columbus by purchasing a set of our post it notes, one of our EV themed stickers, or an EV t-shirt.
