An Earth Month Full of Fun and Education for the Community

Dear Simply Living Community,

April is always a special time for us—a month when we join hands with neighbors, partners, and fellow advocates to celebrate Earth Day and recommit to protecting our planet. In many ways, Simply Living was conceived because of Earth Day. (Do you remember the Columbus Earth Day celebration of 1990? If so, email a memory to us that we can share!) This year, our calendar is packed with events, from festivals to film screenings, where we’ll educate, inspire, and take action together.

Here’s where you’ll find us this Earth Month:

White Castle Earth Day Event

Please note, this event is not open to the public. It is for White Castle staff and residents of the surrounding residential community. We’ve participated for years now, and there is always a nice turnout eager to learn and engage with us about sustainability activism.

Official Columbus Earth Day Fest (April 27)

On April 27th, we’ll be at the Columbus Earth Day celebration at the Scioto Audubon Metro Park in downtown Columbus, one of the city’s largest gatherings for environmental education and activism. It was at this celebration in 2012 when this author first met Chuck Lynd and began a long-term relationship with Simply Living. Join us for workshops, green vendors, and lively discussions about building a more resilient community.

Simply Living Film Series Screening, in partnership with the Central Ohio Reuse Coalition (May 4th @ noon – doors at 11:30)

Plastic pollution is one of the greatest threats to our ecosystems—and our health. In early May, we’re co-hosting a screening of Plastic People with our good friends and partner organization the Central Ohio Reuse Coalition. This powerful documentary exposes the crisis of microplastics. Stay tuned for more details!

Nature Walks with Cindy Lanese (May 4 @ 2:00pm)

Join us at Antrim Park for a relaxing nature walk. “It’s the time when the earth warms again and the sun reaches out from the sky. Come walk and unfurl together as nature does in Spring’s turn of the wheel.” – Cindy

Green on the Green (May 10)

Hosted by the Worthington Partnership Green Team, this annual sustainability fair in Worthington is a favorite! This vibrant gathering features interactive exhibits, hands-on activities, and engaging displays that encourage attendees of all ages to explore new ways to live sustainably. Stop by the Simply Living table!

Pins with Purpose: Part Two with Sequoia Pro Bowl (May 18)

Save the date for a fun-filled Sunday at Sequoia Pro Bowl! This fundraiser supports our ongoing work to promote sustainable practices in Central Ohio. More info coming soon!

Take the Earth Month Eco Challenge!

We invite you to participate in our Earth Month Eco Challenge—a series of self-selected, simple, impactful actions and education to reduce your environmental footprint. For more information see our blog here.

A Change to our April Plans

With so many events this month—and even more in early May—we are pausing our popular film series for the month of April to focus our energy on this bounty of Earth Day activities. Our May screening is earlier than usual so you don’t have to wait too long before our next vibrant discussion on the most pressing environmental issues.

Which event will we see you at? Let us know in the comments, or if you are interested in volunteering to help us staff a booth, please reach out to our volunteer coordinator.

In Solidarity,

The Simply Living Team
